Description

This collection contains more than 20 digital photographs and print reproductions of Garrett Park in the 1890s. These are the earliest known photographs of the town and were donated to the archives by a descendant of Beverly Thomas Galloway, a plant pathologist with the USDA and one of Garrett Park's first residents. The photographs feature not only the Galloway house but other early houses and buildings as well.

St. James Chapel/Town Hall Under Construction
This is a photograph of St. James Chapel under construction in the mid-1890s. The Chapel later became Garrett Park's Town Hall.

Intersection of Rokeby and Argyle
This photograph, ca. 1890, shows the intersection of Rokeby and Argyle Avenues looking west up Argyle. Kenilworth Avenue is visible at the top of the photograph.

Garrett Park Schoolhouse
This is Garrett Park's one-room schoolhouse ca. 1895. The building is now part of the house at 10701 Kenilworth Avenue.

Galloway House
This is a front view of the Beverly Thomas Galloway house (10925 Kenilworth Avenue), ca. 1891, taken shortly after completion of the house. Galloway was a plant pathologist with the USDA.

Dorsett House
